Yoshinkan dojo has a class location in Yokosuka at the Yokosuka City West Gymnasium (Yokosuka-shiritsu Nishi-taiikukan), 1-2-3 Nagasaka, on Wednesdays from 7:10 to 8:40.

The main Yoshinkan dojo (click the link for contact information) is in Shonandai, about 50 minutes from Yokosuka station by train, and has classes on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Oshu, Iwate Prefecture

Yushinkan Dojo (home page in Japanese is here) is based in Sendai and holds classes at many locations in Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate and Aomori Prefectures. Currently the nearest location to Oshu is in Ichinoseki (Himawari Kaikan, 5-1 Tamura-cho) on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The dojo home page says that new classes are planned for Kitakami and Oshu itself, but gives no dates.

There are two class locations in Kobe, so you are in luck.

1) Kobe Oji Kyoshitsu (class) at the Oji Sports Center, 1-1 Aotani-cho, Nada-ku, Kobe-shi 657-0805

2) Kobe Nishidai Kyoshitsu at the Cultural Gymnasium (Bunka taiikukan), 1-1 Hasuike-cho, Nagata-ku, Kobe-shi 653-0837

Both of these class locations are part of Kinshinkan Dojo (here is the home page in Japanese), head instructor Kotoji-sensei (7th dan) located in nearby Akashi. The address is 1-1-9 Uenomaru, Akashi-shi, Hyogo-ken 673-0846. Fax and telephone is 078-912-6449. The dojo also has other class locations in Harimacho and Himeji.

From Kikuna you have a couple of options.

1) Kitamura-sensei's classes in Kozukue (Tuesday 6:30 - 8:20) OR Shinyokohama (Wednesday 6:30 - 8:20). This appears to be a small class that meets once a week. Here is the home page (in Japanese only). The fax number is 045-781-5507.

2) Seishinkan's Jiyugaoka dojo is a bit further away (about 17 min. from Kikuna), but classes are held there three times a week (Monday 6:45 - 9, Wednesday 6:45 - 9, and Saturday 4 - 6). In addition, membership entitles you to unlimited practice at any Seishinkan location. Here is the link to Seishinkan (in English) with contact information listed. Shin Yokohama

I spoke with some non-Japanese speakers at the recent Kanagawa Prefecture Branch Camp, and they highly recommend Yushinkan Dojo in Machida, which is about 22 minutes by train from Shinyokohama. The dojo's head instructor is Yoshida-sensei, who is also the head of the whole Kanagawa Prefecture branch. The dojo has classes every day of the week, and a number of affiliated classes in different locations.

I would suggest sending a fax in English first, if a telephone call in Japanese is difficult. The phone and fax numbers are the same: 042-728-8172.

Now, there is also a dojo that meets once a week very near Shinyokohama (the location alternates between the Yokohama-shi Supotsu Ikagaku Senta and another locaiton near Kozukue Station. Looking at the web site here, it looks like the class is quite small. The teacher is Kitamura-sensei. The fax number is 045-781-5507.

Gaienmae, Minato-ku, Aikido in English

Once or twice a month I interpret Aikido classes into English on Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the Gaienmae location of Seishinkan. Coming to Japan to practice aikido

Are you thinking about coming to Japan in order to practice ki aikido?

If you have an ample budget, you should certainly consider Tohei Gakuin (click here for more detail). You will study and practice ki development and aikido at Ki Society world headquarters, earning 2nd dan and instructor qualification in two years of full time study.

Another option is to stay at a "gaijin house" or other relatively lower-cost residence in Tokyo and sign up with a local dojo offering a lot of training time. At the top of the list would be my own Seishinkan (click here for more detail) , Enshinkan (click here for more detail) in Shinjuku, Keishinkan (Japanese site here) in Hatagaya, and Yushinkan (click here for more detail) in Machida offering about 12 -14 hours or more of practice a week. Also, I am sure you could consult with the head instructor about how to practice more hours if you wished.

Yoga dojo (Setagaya-ku) offers classes with complete translation into English. You can find the web site here. The site focuses on the childrens classes, but adult classes are held on Wednesday from 7 - 9 and Sunday from 10 -12. Yoga is about 25 minutes by train from Nogizaka. You can find the contact email address on the web site.

If you would be comfortable with some learning by watching and some English assistance from other aikido students, I highly recommend Seishinkan dojo's locations in Akasaka (2 minutes from Nogizaka) on Thursday from 7 - 9, in Aoyama (Gaienmae, 10 minutes) on Wednesday on Wednesday from 7 - 9, Gaienmae on Friday from 7 - 9, and in Ochanomizu (20 minutes) on Tuesday from 7 - 9. One possibility from Komaba is Maeda-sensei's dojo that has locations in Sangenjaya and Yoga. This is a dojo that I attend every week, so I can tell you all about it. I translate for the classes on Wednesday night 7 -9 and Sunday morning 10 -12 at Yoga, which is about 20 minutes from Komaba Todaimae. This web site has more information (the site emphasizes the children's classes, but you can find a map there).

Tochigi-ken

If you are looking for a dojo in Tochigi-ken, you are in luck! In addition to Ki Society World Headquarters, there are at least 12 different dojos and class locations in the prefecture. I think your best bet is to email Ki Society HQ at the email address you can find here with information about where you live, your means of transportation, and if possible, your desired training schedule. If you get interested in aikido and you have the time available, you are going to want to train more than once a week, and this may be the deciding factor in your choice of dojo.

Edogawa Kyoshitsu

Shioya-sensei teaches at the Edogawa Kyoshitsu. The location is the Edogawa Sports Center, 4-2-20 Nishikasai, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo. Classes are on Saturday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (children's classes from 6 to 7). Monthly fee is 5,000 yen.

Yushinkan Dojo operates classes across Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate and Aomori prefectures. Class in Hachinohe is on Sundays from 6 to 8 pm. The address is 2-25-6 Numadate, Hachinohe-shi.

Located at Ki no sato in Tochigi, daily instruction in aikido and ki principles by top instructors in beautiful surroundings - and delicious food. Seishinkan Dojo (Ohara-sensei) Aoyama Kyoshitsu is my home dojo. Classes are Wednesday 7 to 9 PM (no class 4th Wednesday of the month). Classes on Friday 7 to 9 PM are held at the nearby Gaienmae dojo location.
